High in the mountains of the Northwest Province of Cameroon is Harvest Children's Home (HCH) - a real home for, on average, 60-70 wonderful children - children much like yours and mine. They sing and shout, laugh, cry and play. They're filled with dreams and hopes, questions and struggles, but one thing they don't have to wonder about any more is "where do I belong?" Before HCH these children were destitute. Because of the ravaging AIDS epidemic and other hardships, most of them lived without one or both of their parents in abject poverty, or in desperate conditions with poor relatives struggling to raise children from multiple families. They lacked the most basic necessities of life: adequate shelter, proper nutrition, good water and supervision.
But all that's a fading memory now. At Harvest Children's Home, these kids have a new family - a multitude of "brothers" and "sisters," and a caring staff of 9 to see to that they're loved and well supervised. They have a new hope - security, stability and a Christian upbringing with a faith they can build their lives on. Spiritually and emotionally the place is one of prayer, ongoing sacrifice, life struggles, victories (great and small), and joy. Our kids also have a new future, far different than before. They'll grow up healthy and strong with good food, water and sanitation. They'll be educated in local schools instead of being forced to quit to help support the family. And theirs lives will be enriched in many ways: with many life skills, from doing dishes and laundry to food prep and farming; as they continue through school they'll learn needed job skills; and perhaps most importantly, because of the good role models of loving staff members, they'll learn to love, discipline and be good parents. Harvest Children's Home is producing a new generation of complete, well rounded and strong future leaders for the Nation of Cameroon with everything they need to succeed.
Harvest Children's Home is a ministry of Cry Cameroon Ministries [USA], a 501(c) (3), 170 Public Charity.
